This new Benezit in 14 Volumes is the
1st English edition. It includes information on artists active up to 2005. The original entries have been re-written and updated by a team of scholars working for the last 5 years. With the addition of several thousand artists, the 14-volume set has increased to over 20,000 pages, with over 170,000 entries. This 1st English edition makes Benezit more than ever the world’s most complete and up-to-date biographical dictionary of artists of all times and all countries. Managing editor of the English edition is Christopher John Murray; project manager is Karen Beaulah. Important contributors to the original French edition include Jacques Busse and Christophe Dorny.

Revised and Expanded

Not only is this new edition of Benezit in English, it is also heavily updated and greatly expanded. Since the publication of the last edition in 1999, a team of 150 editors, art historians and translators, has been working to complete the monumental 2006 edition. Older entries have been updated and expanded, and new entries have been added, bringing thousands of changes to this new edition.

Features include biographical entries on artists, descriptions of museums and galleries where the works of an artist can be found, graphics (including artist signatures, monograms and stamps of sale), auction records, and bibliographies of written works about the artist.

All these combine to make the 2006 Benezit Dictionary of Artists even more compelling and useful to a much wider audience than ever before.

Now Published in English for the First Time

The first English-language edition of Benezit is ready from spring 2006. This edition is also the largest ever—over 170,000 entries, comprising over 20,000 pages in 14 volumes. Published in France by Editions Gründ, and delivered worldwide by El Buen Libro.
